WWW Wednesday!

WWW Wed

I completely forgot about this last week, I was recovering from the book launches and editing etc. I have managed to read a couple of books since! So, let’s dive in shall we?

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

CurrentlyReading

I’m currently reading book three in The Final Formula series, and This Savage Song. I’m not sure why I ended up reading them both, I’m loving The Final Formula book (I adore that series!), but here we are.

(Linking to book 1 in the series to avoid spoilers & such).

FinalFormulaIt feels so good to be back in this series! I love the characters, and the world is so well developed and an absolute delight to read. I’m savoring it and the experience. I highly recommend this series to everyone who enjoys Urban Fantasy.

ThisSavageSongThis Savage Song is very different from my usual reads. I’ve read A Darker Shade Of Magic and its sequel, so I’m familiar with the author’s style. The prose is beautiful and very carefully executed but it doesn’t pull me in the way other authors do. This Savage Song is hitting more emotional chords for me, but it’s still not pulling me along. It’s very much character-driven and I’m enjoying it a lot at the moment. The world is well put together, the characters are developing nicely. It’s a pleasant read.

RecentlyRead

I had a bit of a run of bad luck with the two books I read recently.

FaeBloodI picked up Faerie Blood as it looked like a nice light, fun urban fantasy read. Ideal for relaxing and destressing after the book launches. Unfortunately it felt as though the author had read another series that I quite enjoyed, used the same beats, but failed to execute. The entire thing was very stiff, flat, and verging on mediocre. I read to the end out of curiosity but the ending was very weak. There was a lot of potential there. The world could have been a lot of fun, if the characters were fleshed out they’d have been great. It’s a shame.

MercMagicAfter that I was in the mood to return to my favourite popcorn read – Ella Summers’ Dragon Born series. I picked up book three in the Serafina branch, and was again disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books. They were quick-paced, light, with fun and interesting worlds. They were light escapism that I whizzed through, perfect for when I need some down time and relaxation. This one however felt rushed, shallow, and disjointed. I’ll read the final book in this branch because I did love the first two, but I remain irked. This series has three branches now, I preferred the first book in the Alexandria branch, so I’m going to hope to see more books with that cast of characters.

ReadNext

I’m really not sure! I have over eighty books on my tbr mountain and I’m not really sure what’s calling to me right now. I don’t really have anything for this section as it’ll come down to skimming down my list on my kindle and seeing what pops out at me!

It feels good to be back to reading and relaxing a little bit again. Have you read any really good or absolutely awful books recently?

    1. I know exactly what you mean! They’re beautiful, the world’s are rich, but there’s a spark missing for me. This Savage Song definitely has a little something more, but I’m not madly in love.

  1. I can’t imagine multiple branches in a series! That must surely be difficult to write, I’d imagine. Stinks that the one you selected was a dud. I also recently read a book in a series that felt rushed…not too terribly much substance to it. Happy reading!

    1. She has the main characters set in different places around the world, Serafina’s in the US, Alexandria’s in Europe, I can’t remember the 3rd. So it’s not too interlinked. Hopefully we’ll have better luck this week!

  2. I’ve got This Savage Song waiting to be read at home, but I’m not sure yet when I’ll get to it. I’ve enjoyed ADSoM and its sequel, but I wasn’t as mind-numbingly thrilled with it as other people. I’m looking forward to reading it but it’ll have to wait its turn.

I think I added the first book to The Final Formula to my tbr list a while ago, but I’ll check! 🙂
